As my wife and I raise our kids we are amazed at how different things are now from the way they were when we were kids. The overstimulation, the ever present influence from the media and the lack of trust we have in society as a whole.
Proverbs 22:6 says that if we train up our kids in the way we should go, when they are old they will not depart from it. Each of my kids are so different and yet they each are facing the same influences. Right now we can protect them from a lot. We homeschool, we do our best to monitor what they watch, all in an attempt to keep them safe in an evil world. The one concern I have is where is the line between keeping your kids safe and sheltering. If we shelter them, they aren’t really being trained on how to deal with the things they will face.
I pray that my kids never experience the problems some children face. War. Famine. Religious oppression. That being said I want them to stand up for what they believe in.
